Our Philosophy Preserve Your Investment in Your Landscape    The key to a healthy landscape starts with a healthy living soil. At Organic Solutions we focus on rebuilding and revitalizing the soil in your landscape. Our natural soil care program returns beneficial organisms, nutrients and organic matter to the soil. By creating a healthy soil we create an environment for healthy plants. Healthy plants are able to fend off diseases and insects, reducing the need for pesticides and fertilizers. Killing the Soil Slowly    Most landscapes are lacking in microorganisms and organic matter in the soil. In order to keep a nice manicured landscape, grass clippings, leaves and branches are removed, eliminating an important source of organic matter. After only a couple of years newly installed landscapes start to decline. Older landscapes are full of weeds, insects and disease. At this point most landscapes are turned over to a program to improve their looks. Synthetic fertilizers are used to green up the grass. Pesticides are used to control weeds, insects and diseases. After a few years of this treatment, the soil becomes depleted of organic matter, compacted, deprived of oxygen, and contaminated with chemicals. Roots become stunted and plants become stressed. In turf thatch builds up, becoming a breeding ground for disease and insects. The original problem has been made worse. This leads to even greater amounts of fertilizers and pesticides needed just to keep the landscape alive. Rebuilding the Soil    Organic Solutions is focused on rebuilding the soil using natural ingredients. Our programs are customized to meet the needs of each landscape. We use compost and compost teas and fertilizers made with only natural ingredients. When called for, we add mycorrhizal fungi to the compost tea. These fungi help increase the roots' ability to take in water and nutrients. We use a pelletized lime with a soluble humate. Benefits of our Organic Soil Care    With the health of the soil returned, a living soil with bacteria, fungi, nematodes, worms, and protozoa is created. The soil food web is returned. The benefits of this increase in soil biology is greater pore space, greater water holding capacity and a reduction in soil compaction. Root growth increases, making plants stronger and healthier.
